Chuckwalla / Pinnacle Peak hike / Scottsdale

Fortunately, hikers seldom run across a Chuckwalla on Arizona trails, as they often run from humans. He normally would have squeezed himself under this rock, not to be seen.  I guess this guy wanted to bask in the sun, doing some fine push-ups (preferring 102 degree days).  Primarily herbivores, they are not a threat to man.  The Common Chuckwalla, found only in the Southwestern USA, is in the iguana family and very large at about 16 inches long (40 cm).  Gotta love the desert wildlife!!!
