Mayor Herbert “Herb” Drinkwater
and His Dog Sadie, 2003
bronze statue by Clyde Ross Morgan
Herb Drinkwater was a four term mayor of Scottsdale from 1980-1996 when Scottsdale doubled in size to 179,000 pop. He oversaw and encouraged businesses such as The Princess Resort and the Mayo Clinic coming to Scottsdale, preserving the McDowell Mountains, and turning the ugly wash through the city into a lush greenbelt of parks. Several bronze statues memorialize him in Scottsdale, such as the bronze bust at Mustang library, and the life-size one with his dog Sadie, perfect for posing, as it was for my friend, Julie.
