I ♥ the Little Red Schoolhouse in Old Town

The Scottsdale Historical Society and the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce saved this Little Red Schoolhouse from destruction in 1969 when the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall was expanded.  This school was built in 1909 next to the first Scottsdale school, a wooden building that opened in 1896 with 14 pupils.  A group met with Chaplain Winfield Scott to form a school district called Scotts-Dale when the town was still known as Orangedale.  From 1972-1991, the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce made it their office, and the Scottsdale Historical Society took it over in 1991, opening the museum.  Inside you can see a showcase of Scottsdale High School (1922-1983) memorabilia.  In addition to great old photos of early Scottsdale is a classroom as it would have looked in 1910.  It's free!!  And if you ask, they might let you ring the school bell!!
