Bike-friendly Scottsdale

Scottsdale is a bike-friendly community, recognized by the League of American Bicyclists at a "Gold" level for 2011-2014.  This picture shows a route up Sweetwater Road popular with bike clubs because of the lack of traffic and uphill slope.  According to www.athomeatscottsdale.com, there are:
  • 86 miles of bike lanes
  • 10 miles of paved shoulders
  • 50 miles of bike routes
  • 61 miles of paved paths
  • 238 miles of unpaved trails
For mountain bikers, the McDowell Sonoran Preserve has 60 miles of dual use trails.  In addition, the Indian Bend Wash offers 13 miles of nearly uninterrupted bike paths, tunneled under the roadways that take bikers from 90th and Shea all the way to the Tempe Lake.
