Vista del Camino Food Bank in Scottsdale is in dire need of food to replenish its food banks. This time of year, with students at home, the need jumps three times. Also, Vista del Camino is beginning to collect for their back to school program where eligible children receive a backpack and school supplies and two sets of new clothing, socks, underwear, and a pair of shoes. Items they desperately need are: peanut butter, boxed full meals such as Mac and cheese, cereal, hamburger helper, canned meals such as ravioli, stew, chili, canned meats such as tuna and chicken, and other nonperishable foods. In addition, they need baby food, diapers, toiletry items such as shampoo and soap, paper towels and toilet paper. Donations can be made to Vista del Camino, Scottsdale's social services center, at 7700 E. Roosevelt Street. They also accept monetary donations. Oh, and don't forget the pets! Many families caught in the slower economy have family pets, so they accept pet food, too.
