"Fear the Artichoke," Artie the Mascot. Born in the protest era of the 70's, this unconventional mascot is embraced by current students, though the color scheme of pink and lime green has changed to green and gold! Scottsdale Community College sits on 160 acres of land belonging to the Salt-River Pima-Maricopa Indian Reservation leased from 1970 to 2069. This two-year Community College serves about 20,000 students with standard university transfer programs as well as specialized programs such as Culinary Arts, Hospitality and Tourism, Motion Picture Production, and Equine Science. In conjunction with Northern Arizona University, they offer 4-year degrees in several disciplines through a program known as SCC2NAU. SCC is a great place to get an affordable education ($76 a credit or about $1,000 a semester) or take some non-credit courses for enrichment. All ages (almost) are welcome. Check out:
