Want to step back in time and go to a local business where everyone knew your name? This is one reason to go to Casella's Deli on Granite Reef just south of MacDonald in the Basha's complex. Of course, the food is the main reason - with great Philly cheesesteaks, chicken salad sandwiches, pizza subs, and Italian hoagies. And world-famous Cannoli. Joe and Tina moved to Scottsdale in 1974 from Philadelphia, and opened their deli in 1977 - now 35 years of Scottsdale history. Their many daughters went to Saguaro, and the restaurant is a staple for locals. The family runs this restaurant, and greets most patrons by name. Of course, they love newbies, too. Check out yelp or urbanspoon to see the excellent ratings. Casella's focuses more on the food than the interior decor!! For example, you can see many years of Saguaro's Senior Class Panoramas as their major wall decorations. Two quick notes: 1 - cash only, 2 - they close Sundays, holidays and for a family vacation every summer.
