A Sense of Place: Luminarias, Chihuly and Desert Botanical Gardens

Photos by Lisa E White
Five days are left for Las Noches de Las Luminarias at the Desert Botanical Gardens, ending December 31, 2013.  Four hours (5:30-9:30) of incredible botany, art, music and tradition make this exhibit an experience to not be missed.  The juxtaposition of Chihuly glass, blown into biomorphic forms to mirror or enhance the cacti creates dramatic vignettes to view as you stroll along the luminaria-lined paths.  Music acts this year are similar to years past, but all seem to be better than I remember, creating theatrical performances as they play--don't miss The Travelers, for example.  Maybe the warm weather, full moon and special warm drink influenced my attitude, but this is the best year ever.  (The last time we went, it was cold and raining, ¾ of the luminarias were out, but we persevered because they would not give us a refund.) Tomorrow - a focus on Chihuly in the garden.
