New Kids on the Block

Scottsdale may be urban, but in the neighborhood near 96th Street and Cactus, large horse acreage makes it feel very rural.  I love walking past horses, chickens, donkeys, llamas and goats.  This week we have new kids ready to greet neighborhood children and old nannies like me.   There are over 300 distinct breeds of goats, one of the first domesticated animals.  A couple of fun facts - they do not eat tin cans, but are browsers, so they look for plant material everywhere, eating the labels off of cans.  Also, they have prehensile upper lips and tongues, so the ability to grab onto things combined with their natural curiosity and hunger can make petting zoos quite an interesting experience.  Beware of kids.
