Tognoni's "The Yearlings" Sculpture - Old Town

"The Yearlings" photo by Lisa E White
Running free, these three colts embody the free spirit of the American West.  "The Yearlings" by George-Ann Tognoni invite you to follow them into the Civic Center Mall, or at least get your picture taken in front of them.  Scottsdale's nickname, "The West's Most Western Town," reflects the early history of Scottsdale founded on agriculture with the 44,000 acre DC Cattle Ranch, the 4,236 acre McCormick Ranch (Arabian Horses), and the 640 acre Gainey Ranch (Arabians and cattle).  Tognoni enhances Scottsdale's Public Art with several bronze sculptures located throughout the city.  Paul Messinger, former councilman and Tognoni collector, oversaw the committee in 1985 that brought this iconic sculpture to Scottsdale.  "Labor's O'r" is found at his Paradise Memorial Garden mausoleum at Shea and 92nd Street, showing a cowboy putting up is bridle for the last time.
