I love Scottsdale Schools. Since I have showcased Saguaro, Coronado and Desert Mt. High School in this blog, I also want to give a shout out to the Chaparral Firebirds, since many of my friends teach there, and friends' students attend. Ranked #10 in Arizona for academics from U.S. News, one of only four regular public schools to make the top ten, Chaparral could see over 2,300 students in 2012 at the newly renovated campus off of Shea and Scottsdale Road. Originally built as an open campus without walls in 1972, Chaparral has become more traditional, adding walls and closing campus, and building a strong academic focus. Athletics are also very important with major sports such as baseball, basketball and football taking many state titles. All SUSD high schools have six class periods a day from 7:45 to 2:20 p.m. for 180 school days from August 8, 2012-May 24, 2013. I wish all Scottsdale schools, teachers and students a successful school year.
