Pink Pony Lives On in Old Town

Photos pinkponyrestaurant.com
In 1947,  the Cleveland Indians and New York Giants came to Scottsdale for the first Cactus League spring training.  Scottsdale Road was still dirt when Charlie Briley, a baseball enthusiast, opened the Pink Pony as a place where the MLB players, umpires, staff, scouts and fans could mosey up to the bar and enjoy some good steaks.  Horses could be hitched out front.  After Charlie died, new local owners took it over, saving this great institution in Old Town.  The Pink Pony is now updated, having kept the traditions and great mesquite fired steaks, but having added a few modern interpretations on comfort food.  Enjoy the baseball memorabilia covering the walls, with pictures of many celebrity visitors such as Ted Williams and Dizzy Dean.  Last year, the 50th anniversary Charro's horseback ride took off from the Pink Pony, just as they had done in 1961.  Tradition.  Scottsdale is lucky to have a restaurant that has a sixty-five year history.  The Pink Pony
