On Sundays in November, the conditions are perfect for a hike. Ranked one of the best hikes in the valley, Pinnacle Peak rivals Camelback and Squaw Peak for the views and great trail, but without the crowds. The trail was improved a few years ago and is ranked moderate, with an elevation climb of 1,300 feet. There is a beautiful lookout called Grandview, with nearby rock benches called the Owl's Rest. As hikers drop down into a wash, a beautiful cholla forest awaits. On a clear day, you can see 360 degree views of the valley and over to Four Peaks. The trail does not take you up the peak, but experienced, equipped rock climbers can access the rocks from three areas from the trails. The 3.5 mile in-and-back trail takes an hour for the swift, 90 minutes for most, and two to three hours for those who like to take it easy. The information center has restrooms, limited parking, and water. Open every day from dawn to dusk, except Thanksgiving and Christmas. Though there are no bikes or dogs allowed, beware of possible horses, runners and little children, as this hike is popular with families. Take a hike.
