Yes, the Borgata will be closing soon. A luxury condominium builder has purchased the upscale complex for housing units. In 1981, the complex was built to resemble the Tuscan village of San Gimignano (pictured above) which I recently visited, though I think the architecture more resembles Sienna. I remember many happy times in the Shakespeare Beethoven bookstore, having coffee sitting in the courtyard listening to the fountain. The atmosphere had a European feel, with specialty shops and fine dining. But restaurants have come and gone, and businesses have closed, with only 13 of 40 business still open. Freestanding Blanco Tacos and J. Alexander will remain, and I hope the beautiful exterior, which has become a North Scottsdale landmark, will, too.
