I love the way the Scottsdale libraries make the children's sections so exciting and welcoming to young readers. At the Civic Center Library, the entire children's area opens into two story space making this castle a possibility. Kids can walk over the drawbridge into the castle, or grab a book and snuggle into a niche to read about the days of Camelot. Special events are planned, such as a Dr. Seuss reading day, where high school volunteers dressed up as different Seuss characters such as the Cat in the Hat, read with the children and planned thematic activities. These activities and decorations make reading exciting, an enticement for the adventures that await in the pages of the thousands of books on the shelves. (Also see Civic Center Library post of June 6.)
