With a radius of about three miles around the Scottsdale Airport, the Airpark is the second largest employer in the state of Arizona. With 2,500 businesses and 48,000 employees, this multi-use area was planned for high tech and other innovative businesses to have quick access to an airport for meetings or to transport products quickly. Business leaders call the area an "incubator" because so many new companies have successfully taken flight. Boundaries to the north are Thompson Peak; East to Pima/90th Street; South, Thunderbird; and West to Scottsdale Road (though one source said 56th Street.) This includes Scottsdale Quarter, TPC Golf Course, the Airport, Promenade Shopping Center, West World, Scottsdale Sports Complex, Perimeter Center and over 30 regional and national headquarters.
