McDowell Park and Four Peaks

Photos by John Calvin
Every Friday from 8-10 a.m., McDowell Mountain Park hosts a fitness hike led by Ranger Amy.  Though you might have missed it today, other great events are planned at the park this month.  Today, Dec. 7, join a "Mobile Phone Photography Workshop" from 11-12:30.  Many beautiful pictures can be taken of the desert and vistas by knowing the workings of your camera phone.  Tomorrow, Dec. 8 at 11, is live reptile and animal feeding, and from 7:30-9:30, learn about astronomy at "Star Gazing for Everyone."  December 15th is a "Dixie Mine Hidden Petroglyph Hike", and Dec. 29th is a "Holiday Full-Moon" evening hike.   This park is over 21,000 acres, adjacent to the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, with incredible views overlooking the desert and Four Peaks Mountains.  A variety of hiking trails are available for all levels of hikers, and the solitude is a nice break from busy Camelback and Piestawa hikes during the high season.  Events are free with park admission, $6 per car or $2 for walk-ins.  For more event details, check out:  McDowell Mt. Regional Park
