Party Town - Party Down

aboutphoenix.com
In Scottsdale, the decision isn't what is there to do tonight, but rather, how can I choose?  With the Fiesta Bowl around the corner, and every resort and nightclub ready to celebrate, tonight is a great time for the over 21 crowd.  If you don't already have reservations for a New Year's Eve event at a Scottsdale restaurant or resort, join the 10th annual Scottsdale's Ultimate Block Party with bands such as Dirty Head and Authority Zero (among a dozen popular bands unknown to me.)  Axis Radius and American Junkie are two nightclubs downtown with special events planned, and hefty cover charges.  When they close at 2 a.m., check out Afterglow at Smashboxx which opens at 3 a.m. and plans 8 hours of fun for those all-night partyers.  For a family-friendly party, check out the Mill Avenue New Year's Eve Party with the fireworks (see above) at 9 p.m. and midnight over the lake, where the light rail bridge becomes a rainbow.  Tempe has its own adult block party.  Or, take a short drive to Westgate for the the classic Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville New Year's Eve Party or head to the Celebrity Theater for the Jerry Riopelle NYE bash.  You can choose from hundreds of choices: major ones listed at New Year's Eve 2013.  But beware:  Scottsdale police report this is their busiest night of the year for DUI's, so plan accordingly, and don't drink and drive.  As the freeway signs now say, "Drive hammered, get nailed."  DUI vans will be all over the valley, where officers can perform on-site blood testing for quick DUI determination.  Happy New Year!!
