Scottsdale Canal Fish Murals

Photos by Vicki Leigh Bell

Salt River Project workers herded white amur fish from the canal last week to save them as the canal was drained for cleaning.  These weed-eating fish are essential to the canal's system.  As the canal drained, Flem Chen, an acrobatic group from Tucson performed to percussion on the Soleri Bridge.  Later Ashley Macias and Isaac Caurso created the "Canal Creatures" murals in eco friendly temporary paint on the canal walls.  In February, artist Casey Cooper will install "Floating Triangles" at the bottom of the canal that will float to the surface as the canal refills.  These temporary art installations are a continuing part of the Scottsdale Public Art "Canal Convergence" and are enjoyed by thousands of on-lookers.
