Arcadia High School Fighting Titans

Arcadia High School is another excelling Scottsdale school, though it is technically in Phoenix.  Designed by Mel Ensign in 1958 with a sci-fi modular design, Arcadia's library looked a bit like a mothership, with classrooms forming a donut-like circle around the library.  The 2008 renovation of the campus (designed by Orcutt/Winslow) is the best of the district's recent renovations.  The new brick facade recreates that circular layout of the old campus.  Arcadia is another academically strong Scottsdale school with about 1,800 students.  Famous alumni include Steven Spielberg, Linda Carter and Stevie Nicks.  One unique program is Advertising Art which draws students from throughout the district to its award winning design class taught for over twenty years by Dianna Cure.  Strong neighborhood support saved Arcadia from closing several times over the years, especially when Scottsdale High got the axe in 1983.  Or maybe their guardian angel is the adjacent district office.  I am happy that it survived district cuts, as Arcadia is alive and thriving!!!  (See other high schools on this blog:  Chaparral Aug. 9; DMHS Aug. 8; Coronado July 18 and 19; Saguaro Mar. 31; Scottsdale High July 13; and Notre Dame Prep Nov. 21.)

  1. I was in the first class to go all 4 years at Arcadia. Only half the classroom circle was built. We got to pick the school colors and team name! Had great teachers, too! So glad it is still an awesome school....
