Did you notice the new art that has appeared in South Scottsdale? Scottsdale Public Art, in conjunction with Chandler and Tempe, has a new series of temporary public art which will be showcased on two platforms on Scottsdale Road for a year. Submissions are sought from Arizona university art students, with ASU art department providing the first group of great young artists. Dessication II, shown at top, simulates the cracking of the desert mud after a rain storm and shows the many life forms brought to life in the desert by the rain. This blue, green and clear laser cut and silk-screened acrylic, made by artists Matthew Briggs, Ben Nunnery, and Muharrem Yildirim, brings life to the corner of Scottsdale Road and Roosevelt. Elijah Bourque, from this very Scottsdale neighborhood, created the Synchronicity abstract sculpture at Scottsdale Road and Oak, relating the concept of interconnections at the molecular level to human connections. These two sculptures can be seen until September 2014, when they will be replaced by two new sculptures.
