Open your eyes, Look up to the skies and see . . . a visit to Cosanti fills your senses with Middle Earth-like sights and the sounds of hundreds of bronze and ceramic chimes singing with the wind. Paolo Soleri (now 92) moved here in 1956, opening this not-for-profit educational foundation to raise money to support his school and build his Arcology (architecture + ecology) masterpiece at Arcosanti. Paolo was a fellow with Frank Lloyd Wright for one and one-half years at Taliesin and Taliesin West. At Cosanti buildings are made from concrete formed by earthen molds and built below ground to take advantage of natural cooling. Apses (half-domes) face south taking advantage of the sun's shadow in summer and direct sun in winter. The bells are also made using earthen forms. Buy a bell, change the world.
