Cavalliere's Old Blacksmith Shop

Scottsdale loves horses, and certainly needed a blacksmith shop in its early history.  George Cavalliere, grandfather of the current owner of the shop, came to Scottsdale in 1909 to work on dredging the Arizona Canal.  This building was owner-built construction, including the hand-made adobe bricks.  In 1910, the city fathers didn't want a smelly, noisy establishment in town, so Cavalliere built on the "outskirts" of town, 2nd Street and Brown.   The current building was completed in 1920, making it one of the earliest industrial buildings of the city, and it is a continuously working metal shop.  No longer shoeing many horses, this business is no longer so smelly, and certainly is not on the outskirts of town.
