When they first painted this rust-colored Sante Fe style (Pueblo style) home on Cactus, I thought the color was too vivid. Over time, the color has faded a bit, and my opinion has changed for the better. I love these Sante Fe style homes with their distinctive lodge pole beams (vigas) and thick adobe walls (in Scottsdale, it is often faux-dobe, or stucco). The roof is flat, with adobe fences welcoming you through a courtyard or patio. Often the windows and doors have wooden lintels, possibly painted blue or turquoise. Though we are a long way from Sante Fe, these homes are perfect in the desert because of the thick walls and tile floors, keeping the house nice and cool. (Look at those yellow Palo Verde trees!!!)
