El Día de los Muertos

Just when you thought the spirits of the dead had left Scottsdale, we celebrate the return of our departed loved ones in Day of the Dead celebrations from our Mexican heritage.  Indigenous Meso-Americans including the Aztecs have been celebrating the return of their loved ones this month for thousands of years, because they believed death was a continuation of life, not the end.  And who doesn't love to party with loving spirits rather than run from scary ones?  This photo is of El Día de los Muertos pillows found at the Scottsdale Performing Arts Center gift shop, but brightly decorated skulls and skeletons can be seen all weekend at the Scottsdale Civic Center "La Gran Fiesta."  See blog tomorrow for events that start at noon.
