Scottsdale's weekend of art events honors its place as one of the nation's fine arts destinations. Scottsdale Galleries sponsored this "Paint Out" today with professional artists from these galleries painting a complete painting in two hours to be auctioned off for the Gallery Association fundraiser. This first annual (plans are in the works for continuing every year) auction raised much money and collectors got great bargains. Ranging from $150 to 3,000, works went for half their worth. Next year, collectors will be ready. Other events continue through the weekend, including the opening of West Select at the Phoenix Art Museum, a Beaux Art Fundraiser at the Scottsdale Artists' School tonight, and a Public Art project at the Canal today and tomorrow. My favorite piece was the top painting by Charles Pabst of the Taos pueblo which sold for over $2,000 ($7,000 in the gallery). Charles said it took 45 years to paint, not just two hours!!!
