Canary Island Palms, Pineapple Palms, and Phoenix Canariensis all name my favorite palm tree, a date palm from the Canary Islands.  These slow growing palms have a perfect pineapple-shaped trunk called a nut that usually is shaved when the tree gets taller to form more of a knot before the fronds.  My neighbors had the most beautiful Canary Island Palm in their front yard, and when I heard they were taking it down to put in a grass lawn, I inquired on the price to have it transplanted to our yard.  Unfortunately, the cost was nearly a thousand dollars more than if we purchased one and paid to have it planted. So, sadly, we watched it be cut down.
